Stoke Poges Fete – Thanks

A great thank you for all the effort and help that went into making the Friends of Stoke Common and Burnham Beeches stand such a great success. I know that I enjoyed the entire day and without the help in setting up and taking down it would have been a very long day.  I am sure that we have attracted one or two new volunteers.  The bugs, slow worms and grass snake were enjoyed by a lot of youngsters but not always with their parents.  The microscopes added a different dimension and I think that most of the youngsters were amazed at the spiders hairy legs. Also a thanks to those behind the scenes at the Beeches who set up the displays and helped with hunting the reptiles. The Christmas cards and notelets sold well but a reminder that we all need to think about our Christmas card needs so that the stock we have sells out.  Thanks again to everyone.

Regards

Andrew Booth

Red Kite seen over the Common

An adult Red Kite has been seen circling over the common. These large birds of prey were introduced into the Chilterns a few years ago and their numbers and range are increasing. They are great to watch circling overhead with their thrill pitched cries.
